Mr. Lyle S. Clague, Galesburg Chapel
86, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 12:01 am Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born March 28, 1927 in LaFayette, Ill. the son of LeRoy B. and Lulu Christine Olson Clague. He married D. Jean Parkinson on June 8, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, W. Stewart (Lynn) Clague of Vero Beach, Fla. and David L. (Debbie) Clague of Galesburg; two daughters, S. Jane (Bill) DuBois of Laura, Ill., Amy J. (Tim) Robbins of Victoria, Ill.; one brother, Paul Edward Clague of Galesburg; two granddaughters, Michelle Clague of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jesse (Kenneth) Wakefield of Vero Beach, Fla. and two step grandsons, Cody and Justin Basham; one great grandson, Evan Wakefield. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
He served in the US Navy for two years during WWII in the Pacific Theatre as a fireman 2/C.
Lyle worked at Burlington Truck Lines as a mechanic and assistant manager of equipment for 25 years. He was a field manager for Snap on Tools for 13 years and Ken Company for 7 years selling tools. He retired in 1993. He graduated from Oneida High School in 1945 and attended a year at Western Illinois University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed photography, birds and flowers and refinishing furniture. He was a volunteer for Cottage Corners and made crafts for the church. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 am Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus. 88, of Galesburg died at 2:45 pm Monday, November 18, 2013 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born June 10, 1925 in a boxcar in the Sante Fe Camp in Galesburg, Ill. the daughter of Juan and Leonor Flores Alvarez Luna. She married Adolphus Vargas. She later married the love of her life, Jesse A. Gimenez on March 21, 1964 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Gloria (John) Gall of Rock Island, Ill. and Victoria Duarte of Peoria, Ill.; three brothers, Carlos Luna, Vincent (Pat) Luna and Jesse (Nancy) Luna all of Galesburg; two sisters, Alberta (and the late, Jesse) Vega of Galesburg, Ill. and Avie Vargas of Chicago, Ill., three grandchildren, Victoria (Daniel) Hayden, Maria (Jose) Barragan and Juan Duarte, nine great grandchildren and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter, Yolanda, three brothers Jim and Nick Luna and Frank Mejia, and her sister, Tony Luna.
Margaret worked in clerical for the District #205. She managed Carlson Cleaners and translated for the court systems. Margaret and her husband owned and operated a cleaning service and were real estate investors. She later babysat for families after she retired. She volunteered for the Carver Community Center. She was a past member of the LULAC Club. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed dancing to Mexican music and was an expert seamstress. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 am Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Rev. Deus Dedit-Byabato will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday evening at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rosary prayed at 7 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. 20, of Galesburg, died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born June 24, 1993 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his parents, Jennifer Harris of Galesburg and Robert I. Carter Sr. of Peoria; a son, Leland James Strong Carter of Galesburg; his fiancé, Mariah Salazar of Galesburg; mother of his son, Natalie Strong of Galesburg; brothers, Bobby (and Lorena) Harris of Bloomington, Leon Oliver of Galesburg, Antwaun Harris of Peoria, and Josiah Carter of Galesburg; sisters, Ralonda Mitchell Harris, Tara Harris, and Hannah Carter, all of Galesburg; grandparents, Ann (and Ed) Walton of Peoria and Ruby Harris of Galesburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Harris and Douglas Dyer.
Robert was attending Carl Sandburg College and working at Menard’s until his illness no longer allowed. He was a music producer and enjoyed computers, writing, science, and public speaking. He was of Baptist faith.

Mrs. Gene B. Mills, Galesburg Chapel
99, of Savoy, Illinois, formerly of Knoxville and Galesburg, passed away at 5:00 am, Friday, November 22, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
She was born February 19, 1914 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of William Warren and Eileen (Miller) Balsley. She married Culver C. “Coke” Mills on August 28, 1937 in Galesburg, Illinois. They were married 59 years when he preceded her in death on Monday, April 14, 1997 at Eldorado Hospital in Tucson, Arizona.
Surviving are two children, Douglas Culver “Doug” (Cisty) Mills, formerly of Champaign, IL, currently of Peoria, IL and Virginia Ann “Ginger” (Mike) Mills Baxter, formerly of Knoxville, IL, currently of Fort Myers Beach, FL; four grandsons, David Douglas Mills, Robert Morrison Mills, Michael Culver Baxter, and Christopher Robert Baxter, and three great grandchildren, Madison Mills, Ashley Mills, and Alistair Baxter. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert William Mills on May 9, 1989 and a sister, Virginia Balsley Bouseman in 1996.
Growing up in Winchester, Illinois, Gene and her family moved to Galesburg in 1929, where she attended high school and college, graduating from Knox College in 1935. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.
She began her teaching career in 1935 in Aledo, IL, and taught in Knox County schools for 25 years, teaching physical education her last 13 years at Lombard Junior High School in Galesburg. She retired in 1974. While living in Galesburg, Gene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served on the YMCA board, and was a Silas Willard PTO president. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, bowling, and walking.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Windsor of Savoy. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.

89, of Galesburg died at 11:52 pm, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg.
He was born May 15, 1924 in Maquon Township Knox County, Ill. the son of Eldon Noble and Hortense Helena Hughs Hunter. He married Doris Chenoweth on June 22, 1968 in Palmyra, Mo. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2000.
He is survived by his companion of many years, Virginia Cline and close friends Richard and Marcia Olomon. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Sue Hunter in 1953.
Vern worked for OMC Gale Products. He also worked for Brinks, Inc. and Eagle Grocery Store. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #880 and was a former member of the Elks Lodge #894. Vern enjoyed riverboat gambling and dancing. He was an avid fisherman. Vern loved his cat, “Boots”.
A Celebration of his Life is scheduled for 1 pm Monday, December 2, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Gilson Cemetery at a later date. As per Vern’s wishes, he has donated his body to Mayo Clinic for research. age 69, a resident of the Monmouth Nursing Home and formerly of Berwick, died at 1:10 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the nursing home.
She was born May 2, 1944 in Long Island, New York, the daughter of Oswald and Marion (Bloom) Blumberg. She married Robert Anderson and they later divorced. She then married Gale Wall, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, one brother, Bob and one great-grandson, Justin.
She is survived by four children from her first marriage, Lydia Utsinger of Galesburg, Lynda (Mark) Anderson of Berwick, Lucynda Sargeant of Galesburg and Robert “Andy” Anderson of El Paso, Texas; one child by her second marriage, Gregory (Christy) Wall of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three step-children, Louann Wall of Galesburg, Gary Wall of Galesburg and Larry Wall of Moline; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Blumberg in Florida; and one sister, Marilyn Blumberg in Florida.
She was a homemaker. She also worked at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville and the former Americana Care Center in Galesburg. She later worked at Dollar General in Galesburg. She enjoyed bingo, working crossword puzzles, watering her plants, taking care of animals, cooking, fishing and spending time with her great-grandchildren.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, a potluck luncheon will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Abingdon American Legion. Please bring a dish to pass. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

87, a resident of Seminary Manor in Galesburg, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
She was born January 9, 1926 in Kelly Township in Warren County, Ill., the daughter of Biddle Valentine Watson and Rhea Hortense Mills Watson. She married David Ellison Parnell on April 7, 1944, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne McCraw (husband, Robert) of Columbia, S.C.; two grandsons, Jason Gary (Karen Peters VanEssen) Hartwig of Los Angeles, Calif. and Jared Michael Hartwig (Ariel) of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Helen W. Howard of Coos Bay, Ore.; and three nieces.
Frances graduated from London Mills Community High School, after which time she moved to Galesburg, initially working as a secretary to the Dean of Students at Knox College. After staying at home for a few years raising her daughter, she was employed at Willis Steel Corporation as bookkeeper, where she worked for over 30 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her great passion was playing bridge and socializing with her many friends.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. David Esche will officiate. 85, of Galesburg, died at 1:06 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born December 10, 1927 in Viola, Ill. the son of Verril and Alta (Adcock) Lytle. He married Betty Bewley on October 30, 1949 in Wataga, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; two sons, Tom Lytle of Knoxville and Denny Lytle of Galesburg; six grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Lytle of Wataga; and three sisters, Ruth Pierce of Wataga, Barbara Eiker of Normal, Ill., and Carol Sargeant of Avon, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randy, a daughter-in-law, Linda and three brothers.
Richard worked for Rowe Manufacturing for 34 years and then for School District 202 for 12 years, retiring in 1992. He graduated from Wataga High School in 1946 and attended Brown’s Business College. Richard was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of Bootkickers International and the Wooden Nickel Dance Club. He was a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge #155. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and playing baseball in his younger years.
Funeral will be 10 am Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Kramer and Rev. Suzanne Geer will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Mr. John Robert Cain, lovingly known as Bob, Galesburg Chapel
81, of Peoria, Ill. died November 28, 2013, Thanksgiving Day, while surrounded by his wife, children and family.
He was born February 18, 1932 in Appanoose Township, Hancock County, Ill. to Leonard (Bud) and Helen Cain. He was brother to Bill (Mable) Cain, Alice Belle (Frank) Ruschill, Sarah (Ken) Hoenig and Cynthia Cain. He married Nancy Ann True in 1953. He married Judy Tucker Dunlap in June 2000. He attended Colusa High School, graduating in 1950. He attended and graduated from Carl Sandburg Junior College with a degree in Fire Science Technology. He joined the Galesburg Fire Department in 1962, retiring in 1995. Bob enjoyed carpentry, gardening/canning, hunting and travel. He was affiliated with the Galesburg Carpenters Union and Habitat for Humanity. Attending Presbyterian churches throughout his lifetime, he was a member of the First Federated Church of Peoria. He resided in Tucson, Ariz. For five months during the winter season for the past 14 years.
Survived by his wife, Judy Cain of Peoria; his four children, Carl (Merilee) Cain of North Liberty, Iowa, Fred (Lisa) Cain of Texarkana, Texas, Robert Alan (Lea) Cain of Galesburg, Ill., and Cheryl Jo (Rodney) Stickle of Mokena, Ill.; and step-children, Alice Dunlap of San Diego, Calif., Emily (Patrick) Dunlap-Loach of Houston, Texas, and Jane Dunlap of Peoria. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, one step-grandson and seven great grandchildren; with two more great grandchildren on the way. He was preceded by his parents, Bud and Helen Cain and his sister, Alice Belle.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Myers Cemetery, near Pontoosuc, Ill. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. There will be a memorial fund in honor of John Cain set up at the F&M Bank in Galesburg and Peoria.

She was born August 6, 1910 in Camden, Ill. the daughter of Charles and Emilla Phillips Shelts. She married Ralph Reeder on February 22, 1930 in Rushville, Ill. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Donald Reeder of Galesburg and James (and Judy) Reeder of Sanford, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
She and her husband farmed in the Rushville and Bushnell areas for over 40 years before retiring in 1972. They moved to Abingdon in 1973. Eva was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, Ill., Schuyler County. Rev. Glen Bocox will officiate. 85, of Galesburg, passed away at 3:45 Wednesday Dec 4th 2013 at Washington Christian Village surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born July 21st, 1928 in Dahinda, Illinois to Robert and Lillian (Clark) Stewart. He married Doris Meline on April 17, 1949. She preceded him in death on November 3, 1981. Gene married Betty Tousley on June 9, 1984 and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2002. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; Mary (John) Alderson, Margaret (Bob) Hendricks, Edward (Mary) Stewart, and Everett (Alice) Stewart. Gene is survived by two brothers David (Theresa) Stewart and Paul (Dorothy) Stewart. Gene and Doris have three surviving Children, Robert (Terri) of Dunlap, Ralph (Lisa) of Peoria, and Julie Penn of Washington. Gene has 7 grandchildren, Craig, Beth, Kyle(Nicki), Michael, Patrick (Sarah), Christina, and Emily. One step grandchild, Chrissy and four great grandchildren; Ellie, Connor, Julia and Jack. He has 3 stepsons with Betty; Randy, Troy and Donnie Tousley.
Gene worked at the John Deere Plow Planter Works in East Moline, IL for 37 years where he was known as Bob by his work mates. Gene always worked spare jobs either helping on the family farm or working with his friends conducting estate auctions. After retiring from John Deere he volunteered full time as the Grounds and Maintenance Manager at the Knox County Fairgrounds. He made many friends on the Fair Board and his greatest joy was hosting his grandchildren on his golf cart at the Fair and treating them to free carnival rides during fair week. Gene was a life member of the Galesburg Elks Lodge helping on many community projects and voted Elk member of the year for all the service projects and commitment to fund raising. Gene had many hobbies, but he loved to fish for catfish and his fishing buddies from the Knoxville and Galesburg area took trips several times a year. Gene’s favorite time was the trips he made in later years to Rend Lake. Gene was a devoted family man giving unselfishly to all his family and friends and someone who people could always count on to pitch in and help in time of need. Gene would want to have it known how much he loved and appreciated his Daughter Julie, and Daughter In Law, Terri for the loving care they provided these last few years
