70, of Galesburg, died at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born November 3, 1942 in Oak Park, Ill. the son of Raymond G. and Sue Sturla Kimbell II. He married Agnes Richardson on June 17, 1967 in Urbanna, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Joe (and Holly) Kimbell of St. Paul, Minn. and John (and Sarah) Kimbell of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters, Mary Kimbell of Phoenix, Ariz., Bonnie (and Curt) Chester of Madison, Wis., and Fran (and Brandon) Kriesch of Malta, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Elise Chester, Owen Chester, Christiana Kimbell, Tova Kimbell, Elias Kimbell, Anna Kimbell, Rachel Kimbell, Trevor Kimbell, Ryan Kimbell, Julia Kimbell, and Nathan Kriesch; and one brother, Steve (and Debbie) Kimbell of Tunbridge, Vt. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ray was a practicing attorney from 1968 to 2008. During that time, he served as Assistant State’s Attorney from 1973 to 1982 and State’s Attorney from 1982 to 1996. He returned to private practice in 1996 before retiring in 2008. Ray was raised in Wheaton, Ill., where he graduated from Wheaton High School in 1960. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1964 and from Georgetown Law School in 1967. He had lived in Galesburg since 1973. Ray was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Ray was active in the community, including helping to develop and volunteering in the junior high soccer program for over 25 years.
He served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1970, serving in the Panama Canal Zone.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Mary E. Bulson, Galesburg Chapel
91, formerly of Galesburg, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa.
She was born August 17, 1922 in Henderson, Ill. the daughter of Archie and Laura Haines Maxwell. She married Ira Willis Bulson on October 28, 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2004.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Patrick (and Marilyn) Welch of Lewistown, Ill.; two granddaughters, Angela (and David) Carlile of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Elizabeth “Liz” (and Sean) Seibert of Tempe, Ariz.; two great grandsons, Ryan and Ben Carlile; several nieces and nephews; and friends and staff at Hiawatha Care Center. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a daughter, Cynthia Welch on December 3, 2004; two brothers and one sister.
Mary worked as a secretary for electrical contractor Herschel Maxwell for over 30 years. She was raised in Henderson and Wataga and attended Wataga High School. She was a member of the Wataga Congregational Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. 83, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Monmouth, Ill. died at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in Jewish Hospital in Kenwood, Ohio.
She was born August 27, 1930 in Monmouth, the daughter of Gustaf and Esther Palmberg Johnson. She married Max Bachrach in Cincinnati. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret (and Ken) Olmsted of Galesburg, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Kyle Terpening of Monmouth; four nephews, David (and Susan) Bruyn of Seattle, Wash., Dick Bruyn of Minneapolis, Minn., Kevin (and Nancy) Terpening of Knoxville, Ill., and Dennis (and Becky) Terpening of Kirkwood, Ill.; several great nieces and nephews and several cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother.
Geri was the office manager for the Adams Corporation in Cincinnati that produced Anderson doors and windows. She worked there for 50 years before retiring. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1949 and attended Monmouth College. She was of the Lutheran faith. Geri enjoyed traveling, reading, and knitting.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth. Rev. Pamela Marolla will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mr. Eugene H. “Gene” Fosburg, Galesburg Chapel
89, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 7:12 am Monday, September 23, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born November 4, 1923, in Galesburg, Ill., to Gustave R. and Elna E. Lindberg Fosburg. He graduated from Galesburg High School with the Class of 1941 and was employed by Dohrn Transfer Co. in Galesburg as OS&D clerk until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps December 10, 1942. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in his military assignment as an Administrative Specialist in HQ of the 435th Troop Carrier Group. He served in the USA, England, Italy, and France with his unit which was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for dropping US Army paratroops, glider infantry, and vital supplies, on target, behind enemy lines on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was authorized to display seven battle campaign stars on his European Theater ribbon and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1945. He married G. Patricia Stephens on December 31, 1950, in Galesburg; she preceded him in death on February 22, 1984. Their children are Terry Jean Fosburg-Lytle of Galesburg, and Linda Ann (and Robert) Fosburg Althaus of Camanche, Iowa. He later married Florence Olson-Hendricks on March 30, 1985, she survives. Other survivors are grandson Eric J. Lytle, granddaughter Rebecca L. Lytle, step-sons Philip C. Hendricks of Galesburg, Stanley K. Hendricks of Kansas City, Mo., stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Barbara J. Hendricks-Singer and Steve Singer of New Canaan, Conn., and step-grandsons Steven M. and James A. Singer. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. He attended the Univ. of Iowa and the Univ. of Illinois. He retired in 1989 as Customer Service Manager for Dick Blick Co. in Galesburg. Immediately after retirement he sought out the living members of his WWII unit, arranged annual reunions for them at many different sites in the USA, and regularly wrote and mailed newsletters to the pi. The annual reunions ended in 2006, and he continued the newsletters until February 2011. He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years. Prior to working for Dick Blick Co., he had several other job assignments. He sold insurance for Guarantee Mutual Life Ins. Co., The Prudential Insurance Co., State Farm Mutual Ins. Co., and Aetna Life & Casualty Co. He was also a property Insurance Claim Adjuster for Western Adjustment & Inspection Co., and spent several years in the household goods moving and storage business as Manager of Ferris-Mayflower of Galesburg and Account Salesman for Kreigsman-Mayflower of Pekin, Ill. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg since 1938. He spent many years as a member and four-time President of the civic club Cosmopolitan International. He was a member of Barbershop quartet singers. He was an 8-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross, and enjoyed watching sports events and playing golf and bowling. Gene’s greatest satisfaction in life was finding his WWII Army buddies that were still alive. He was shown how to connect with them and never stopped looking. Reunions were held for over 20 years, meeting in cities all over the US. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, September 27, 2013 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Richard was born March 11, 1929 in Morris, Ill., the son of George W. and Martha (Punke) Finch. He married Betty J. Carpenter on May 5, 1949 in Verona United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jo E. (Robert) Whitlatch, Mary (Frank Dumke) Knop, and Randal L. Finch, all of Galesburg and R. Kevin (Jana) Finch of Verona; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Whitlatch of Madison, Wis., Andrew (Rachel) Whitlatch of Galesburg, Nathan (Jen Tuley) Knop of Pontiac, Ill., Amanda Knop of St. Charles, Mo., Kelsey Finch of St. Louis, Mo., Paige Finch of Verona, and David Tuley of Pontiac; a sister-in-law, Elsie Finch of N.C.; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald G. (Frances) Finch and William Finch.
Richard was raised in Verona, Ill. on a farm. He graduated from Mazon High School in 1947. He spent most of his life farming in Grundy County. He had lived in Galesburg since 2009.

88, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 11:15 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born March 2, 1925 in Denver, Colo., the son of Russell M. and Pearl Pavin Cunningham. He married Norma Munson on June 18, 1949 at First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is his son, Russell R. (Gail) Cunningham Jr. of La Crosse, Wis. and one grandson, Corey (Lauren) Cunningham of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was employed at The Register-Mail for 41 years, retiring as advertising director in 1990.
Russell served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He enlisted at the age of 17 and served five patrols on the SS 245 Gurnard Submarine during World War II. He received the Philippines Liberation Medal with two gold stars.
He was a University of Illinois graduate and was one of the founding members of the Knox County chapter of its alumni association.
Russell was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Lake Bracken Country Club.

He was born January 20, 1943 in Galesburg the son of George L. and Dorothy Moran Palmer. He married Eloise “Darlene” McLean in Burlington, Iowa on October 22, 1987. She survives.
Also surviving are his four sons, Larry Magnison, Garry (Annie) Magnison both of Galesburg, Kenneth (Michelle) Larson of Wayland, Mich. and Kevin (Teresa) Larson of Rockford, Ill.; three daughters, Terry (Doug) Bjoin of Sterling, Ill., Karen (Jerry) Verhgen of Black Creek, Wis. and Kendall (Michael) Engle of Galesburg; two brothers, Jim Magnison and John Magnison both of Cameron, Ill.; a sister, Nancy Kemper of Oneida, Ill.; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandson; one great granddaughter; six nieces; four nephews; a brother-in-law, C.L. Carter of Wynne, Ark. and his cat, Missy and dog Casper He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Madoline C. Carter.
He worked for the former CB & Q Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad as a car man for over 40 years, retiring in 2003. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge Post 894. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan.

age 86, of Galesburg and formerly of rural Abingdon, died at 7:23 pm Monday, November 11, 2013 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
He was born on February 24, 1927 in Yates City, the son of Reece C. and Delores (Thousand) Jones. He married Garnet Alene Paulsgrove on April 15, 1951 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on March 25, 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Pauline Hiatt, one brother, Clyde Jones and one half-sister, Vera Dama.
Reece is survived by his daughter, Pamela (and Michael) Cox of Plymouth, Michigan; his son, Rick Jones of Kewanee; and his grandson, Kevin (and Kelly) Ward of Denver, Colorado.
He graduated from Yates City High School. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He had lived and farmed east of Abingdon since 1966 and also worked at Maytag in Galesburg retiring from there in 1989. He has lived in Galesburg since November 23, 2012. His hobbies included boating, fishing and biking.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Jeff Robbins will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday at the chapel. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the Abingdon United Methodist Church.

70, of Oneida, Ill. died at 7:27 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born January 16, 1943 Vallejo, Calif. the son of William Henry and Ruth Antoinette Peterson Liepitz. He married Susan Isaacson on February 4, 1979 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Erik (and Amanda) Liepitz of Knoxville, Ill. and Amanda (and Nick) Soper of Victoria, Ill.; five grandchildren, Ella, Noah, and Waylon Soper and Delaney and Luke Liepitz; and his cousin, Gwen (and John) Perrin of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Floyd worked for Gates Rubber Company in the maintenance department for 35 years, retiring in 2001. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1960 and attended Omaha Tech College. He played bass and electric guitar for over 48 years in several bands including, Marvin Miles and the Countrymen, The Miller Time Band and most recently, Reynolds Station at the OAKS. He was a member of the NRA. He also was a member of First Lutheran Church.

She was born July 30, 1924 in Maryland the daughter of Guy and Mae Cook Favorite. She married Joseph Bucher on October 15, 1941 in Chester, Pa. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1965.
She is survived by one son, Jerry (and Nancy) Bucher of Knoxville, Ill.; one daughter, Janet Brown of Galesburg; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Guy (and Mary June) Favorite of Warrenton, Mo. and Robert (and Judy) Favorite of Wisc.; one sister, Patricia Shaw of Pa. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, one granddaughter, one great grandson, seven brothers, and two sisters.
She worked as an assistant at Helen and Meade’s. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

She was born September 13, 1921 in Browning, Mo. the daughter of James N. and Pearl Kimbrough Mundell. She married Erwin W. “Rocky” Moeller November 4, 1945 in Wilton, Ia. he preceded her in death on January 21, 2001.
Marilea is survived by two sons David and Anne Moeller, Darryl Moeller, and one daughter Joni and John Zewald all of Houston, Tx., two brothers Nelson Mundell of Moline, Il. and Junius and Lou Mundell of Browning, Mo., three sisters Phyllis and Walt Dengler of Eldridge, Ia., Ruth and Nick Viviani of Moline, Il., and Joyce Aldridge of Galesburg, Il., five grandchildren David Jr., Jonathan, Andrew, Lisa, and Valerie, and one great granddaughter Evan.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Richard and Norris Mundell.
She graduated in 1939 from Browning High School in Browning, Mo. then became a welder at International Harvester in East Moline, Il.. Later owned and operated “Rocky’s” Maid-Rite Shop in Galesburg for 30 years with her husband. Then she worked for Galesburg High School District #205 in the cafeteria for 11 years.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church since 1947, Lutheran Women Missionary League, (L.W.M.L.), church choir, and Galesburg Artist Guild. Marilea enjoyed painting in oils, acrylics, and making crafts. She participated in the Spoon River Drive with her crafts and paintings. She loved gardening, flowers, and traveling to Houston, Tx. to visit her children.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday November 19, 2013 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the services at the church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

87, of Galesburg, died at 11:33 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 in Seminary Manor.
She was born January 14, 1926 in Galesburg the daughter of W. Robert and Cecile Adele (Drenning) Smith.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Smith of Indiana and Veronica Smith of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Barnstead family. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Smith and Paul Smith.
Cecile worked at Knox College for over 40 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of Development. She was baptized at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and was currently a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Cecile graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942 and lived most of her life here. She was an avid reader and volunteered for the Galesburg Public Library. She had been involved with Prairie Players and the Galesburg Civic Art Center. Cecile was a member of the KLW, a Knox retirement group.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. She was born May 10, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. the daughter of Edgar W. and Eva M. (Wyatt) Arber Sr. She married Bob Sholl on November 21, 1964 in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death October 27, 2012.
She is survived by a son, Chris (and Marcia) Sholl of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Jennifer (and Buddy) Rayburn of Edwardsville, Ill.; four grandsons, Brendan Rayburn, Blake Rayburn, Steven Christensen II, and Sean Christensen; a brother, Edgar W. Arber Jr. of California; two brothers-in-law, Ivan (and Linda) Sholl of Bartonville, Ill. and Ronnie (and Tina) Garrard of Washington, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Janet (and Tom) Yeatts of Carbon Cliff, Ill. and Pat Roth of Peoria, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Penny was raised and educated in Kansas City, Mo., graduating from Raytown High School in 1961. She attended University of Central Missouri. While living in Galesburg from 1976 to 1992, she worked at Farm King. After moving back to Kansas City, she worked for the Hall Corporation in the advertising department for 18 years, retiring in 2010. Penny and Bob moved back to Galesburg in 2012.
Penny was of the Methodist faith. In her younger years, she had been active with Job’s Daughters. She loved her grandsons.

He was born March 26, 1960 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his father, John Edward Axcell of Monmouth, Ill.; his mother, Roxie Ann (Olson) Axcell of Galesburg; and a niece, Kathleen Nicole Axcell of Galesburg.
John graduated from Alexis High School and received his certificate in welding from Carl Sandburg College. He worked as a welder in the automotive field.

56, of Vandalia, died Monday, November 18, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born February 26, 1957 in Milwaukee, Wis. the son of John A. and Virginia L. (Platek) Linz Sr. He married Patricia Bogart in Germantown, Wis. He later married Becky Montroy in Princeton, Ill.
He is survived by his five children, Anastasia Linz of Busan, South Korea, Anthony Linz of Tacoma, Wash., Chance (and Casey Warner) Linz of Galesburg, and Zachary Linz and Adriana Linz, both of Monmouth, Ill.; a brother, David (and Charity Gannon) Linz of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Cynthia (and John) Maniaci of Muskego, Wis.; several nieces and nephews; and the mothers of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born and raised in Milwaukee, graduating from Messmer High School in 1975 and the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. John was an avid golfer. He was a former board member of the YMCA in Vandalia. The family would like to thank the members of First Baptist Church and his friends in Vandalia for their care and support.
Cremation will be accorded. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with a memorial service following at 3 p.m. Rev.
