Mr. Eugene R. “Gene” Gibbons, Galesburg Chapel

gibbons-eugene.jpg83, of Galesburg, died at 10:33 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born August 10, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Mich. the son of William Hardy and Mabel C. Ordish Gibbons. He married Ruby Wade. He later married JoAnn Keith on December 9, 1971 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three sons, Richard (and Debbie) Gibbons of Knoxville, Tommy (and Tammy) Gibbons of Abingdon, and William E. (and Lorrie) Gibbons of Knoxville; two daughters, Vickie J. Lester and Renda J. Sharp, both of Galesburg; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild on the way; a brother, Ceryl H. (and Marlene) Gibbons of Orange, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Alice M. Keith of Galesburg; nieces, Heidi M. (and Craig) Johnson of Galesburg and Cheryl L. Gibbons of Orange, Calif.; and nephews, Craig A. Gibbons of Orange, Calif. and Reagan A. Keith of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Gibbons; and two granddaughters.
Gene was a truck driver for Rogers Brothers for 50 years, retiring in June 1994. He then worked for Atlas Intermodel Truckline, retiring in May 2005. Gene enjoyed motorcycling every weekend. In June of 1994, he rode the four corners of the United States with a friend, Wayne Tabb.
Gene was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel with Walter Wade officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
