88, of Galesburg, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his home.
He was born October 16, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of John R. and Cynthia (Henderson) Warren. He married Rosalie Brenning in Peoria, Ill. on January 8, 1949. She preceded him in death in Galesburg on May 29, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rev. John F. Warren and Robert L. Warren; and one granddaughter, Sydney Reeder.
He is survived by four sons, Roger M. (Mary) Warren of Kiawah Island, S.C., Robert W. (Tricia) Warren of Galesburg, Scott E. (Jane) Warren of Galesburg, and Bradley J. (Amy) of Springfield, Ill. He had 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He served overseas in the United States military during World War II and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant with the 229th General Hospital.
Following his military service, he worked in the Traffic Department at Allied Mills, in Peoria, Ill. His 35-year career in community service and development began with the Peoria Association of Commerce. He led the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, retiring there in 1989. He concluded his career at Farmers and Mechanics Bank in Galesburg.
He loved his family, laughed often with them, and he led them faithfully.
He was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg, where he used his natural teaching gifts as the leader of an adult Sunday school class. He served also in the choir and as the chairman of the Church’s Board of Deacons. Most recently, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Galesburg.
A memorial service celebrating his life and legacy will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Coldbrook Christian Church, 1428 State Highway 164. Rick Warren, pastor, will officiate. The family will welcome friends at the church just prior to the memorial service at 10 am. Interment will be at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
