age 82 of Abingdon, died at 8:00 pm Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
He was born on September 27, 1930 in Macomb, the son of Mark Edward and Forrest Zelma (Reed) Smock. He married Micheline Sargeant on February 28, 1969 at Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Micheline; his children, Ken (and Lavina) Smock of Iowa, Jean (and Jim) Smith of Galesburg, Becky (and Howard) Ellison of Gilson, Julie (and Roger) Lundeen of Galesburg, and Greg (and Danielle) Smock of Savoy; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Beck of Macomb.
Jim graduated from Macomb High School. He later served in the National Guard. He worked as an electrician at Maytag in Galesburg and retired on September 30, 1993 after 41 years of service to the factory. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He loved his dog Cassie. He collected Abingdon Pottery. He spent his best times with family and friends and was very proud of his kids.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Darryl McDaniel and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
