80, of Galesburg died at 5:43 pm Thursday, August 22, 2013 in Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born May 6, 1933 in Nashville, Tenn. the daughter of Ernie and Katie Alley Muse.
She is survived by her children, Jackie (Allen) Spann of Nunnelly, Tenn., Helene (Kurt) Stickle and Marlene (Gary Wall) Fisher both of Galesburg, her brother, Charles E. Muse of Fla.; thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sons, William F. and John C. Fisher.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She graduated from high school in Springfield, Ohio and had attended business school.

97, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 5 am Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Care Center of Abingdon, Abingdon, Ill.
He was born June 27, 1916 in Poznan, Poland the son of Herman and Maria Treder Papke. He married Jadwiga “Molly” Sikora May of 1946 in Eroine, Germany. She preceded him in death on November 5, 1998.
He is survived by his children, Paul (Kathryn Cosgrove) Papke, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Papke-Dunn, Irene June Papke and Margaret Ann Papke; his brother, Roman Papke of Poland and two grandchildren, Molly and Alexander Foley.
Paul served in the Polish Armed Forces.
He was co-owner of Swedoughs Donut Shop in Galesburg for over 26 years, retiring December 31, 1994. He graduated from high school and attended college in Poland. Paul was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Bandle, Marion62, of Galesburg, died at 3:11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with his family at his side.
He was born October 25, 1950 in Dunfermline, Ill. the son of Marion “Jack” and Rosetta (Windsor) Bandle. He married Linda Sue Rohrer in 1968 in Canton, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Charles (and Idy Schneider) Bandle of Galesburg; a daughter, Melinda Bandle of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Mary Bandle, Tommy Bandle, Brandon Leon, and Hannah Leon; and a brother, George Bandle of Gilson, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Gloria Bandle.
Marion worked in the paint shop at Maytag for 35 years. He was an avid golfer and after retiring from Maytag in 2002, he worked at Bunker Links. He shot two holes-in-one, both at Bunker Links. Marion loved his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports.

She was born December 6, 1945 in Canton, Ill. the daughter of Melvin and Florence Beatrice (Ulm) Waldron.
She is survived by a sister, Carol (and Earl) Day of Abingdon, Ill.; a brother, Jeff (and Trudy) Waldron of Redlands, Calif.; five nieces and nephews, LuAnne Day Brackett of Abingdon, Jeff (and Julie) Day of Heyworth, Ill., Phillip (and Barbie) Day of Abingdon, Melanie (and Scott) Waldron Medlin of Redlands, and Christine Waldron Corneille of Woodinville, Wash.; 10 great nieces and nephews; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Laura Waldron.
Paula Jean was an LPN and worked at various care facilities in the Galesburg area. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg. Her hobbies included cooking and crocheting afghans. She graduated from Valley High School in Fairview, Ill. and received her medical training in Minneapolis.
Private family graveside service will be in East Midway Cemetery, near London Mills, Ill. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Harmony Baptist Church.  69, of Yates City, Ill. died at 8:10 am Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

 He was born June 17, 1944 in Kankakee, Ill. the son of Harlan Edwin and Elsie Josephine Adams Moats.

He is survived by three brothers, Jim (Myrna) Moats of Yates City, Ill., Bob (Vicki) Moats of Wyoming, Ill., and Ronnie (Margaret) Moats of Bureau, Ill.; three sisters, Wilma Darm, Betty Hickman and Mary (Bill) Svetz all of Streator, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by her parents and his brother, Lee.

 David worked in maintenance for school district 150, retiring in 1999.

He was born on January 4, 1931 in Kirkwood, the son of Elmer Alfred and Hilda Irene (Dykeman) Sickles, Sr. He married Betty J. Schisler Dykeman on July 10, 1952 in Rosetta, Illinois.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty; one daughter, Anita (and Steve) Fordyce of Abingdon; three sons, Rodney Sickles of rural Avon, Kevin (and Susanne) Sickles of Abingdon and Gale (and Diana) Sickles of Abingdon; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sara Hull of Monmouth and Nellie Brownlee of Alexis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Sickles, Elmer Photo2He was preceded in death by a brother Donald, an infant brother, and a son, Robert E. Dykeman.
He had lived most of his married life in the Abingdon area. He farmed all his life. He also worked at Gunther Construction in Galesburg for six years, and he worked as a butcher at Fey’s Locker Plant in Abingdon for several years and later at Kitch’s Locker Plant in Monmouth, retiring in 1992.
He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He attended the Berwick Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Tom Smith and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow the service in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday at the chapel.

79, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 5:05 am Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Knox County Nursing, Knoxville, Ill.
She was born August 13, 1934 in Galesburg, Ill. the daughter of Bud and Nellie Wilkins Harrison. She married Richard L. Berry on August 15, 1953 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2005.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Nancy) Berry and Ronald Berry both of Galesburg; three sisters, Petie St. George, Natalie Steck and Lena Robertson all of Galesburg, three grandchildren, Lindsay Archer, Nikki Berry and Cassie Berry and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Katie was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God. She attended Galesburg schools.
Funeral services are scheduled for 7 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Don Reynolds will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday at the chapel. ,Bennett, fisty obit photo 1affectionately known as “Fisty”, died August 11, 2013 at home Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
She was born November 21, 1932, in Freeport, Ill. to Howard Benjamin and Olladene (Roberts) Scholes.
Fisty is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Anthony Bennett. They were born, raised and married in Freeport. She graduated from Knox College in 1954 with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Pipe Organ. Married for 61 years, Fisty and Chuck lived more than 50 years in Galesburg. They owned Bennett’s Unlimited on Main Street for 15 years.
Fisty served on numerous boards and served in various volunteer positions. In recent years, her pastimes included reading, playing the piano, visiting with family and friends and time on her computer. An early adopter of computer technology (1984), Fisty spent considerable time using the Internet, and connecting with friends and family on Facebook.
Surviving family include her sister, Mrs. Joseph (Molly) Doolittle of Freeport; daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Hunter of Pleasant Prairie, Wis. and Katherine (Kate) Calkins of Galesburg; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Kathryn) Hunter, Jonathon (Kirsti) Hunter, Benjamin (Sagan) Calkins, and Abigail Curtis; great-grandchildren, Avery, Benjamin, Madeline, Caleb, Merreck and Addelyn; nieces and nephews, David and John Doolittle, Mark, Steve and Julie Bennett, and Michael Bennett; and special cousins, Ron, Ray, Randy, Rob, Roger, and Ralph Postin and their families
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. with memorial service following at 1:30 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel on Saturday September 7, 2013. Derry, Murielage 90 of Abingdon, died at 2:20 pm Friday, August 30, 2013 at her home.
She was born on April 12, 1923 in London Mills, the daughter of Homer and Nada (Mitchell) Schisler. She married Harold Eugene Derry on December 23, 1943 in Palmyra, Missouri. Harold preceded her in death on January 16, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Muriel is survived by one son, Brad (and Sherry) Derry of Abingdon; one daughter, Alice Philbee of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Robert (and Holly) Baldwin, Jr., Devon Woods, and Jeremy (and Tina) Derry, all of Abingdon; seven great-grandchildren; her “adopted daughter and care giver”, Kathy Andre; three brothers, Robert (and Velma) Schisler of Quincy, Don (and Darlene) Schisler of Abingdon and JR Schisler in Michigan; one sister, Betty Sickles of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
First and foremost, Muriel was a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend. She worked at the former Glo-Tone Cleaners in Abingdon for 19 years, retiring in 1980. Her hobbies included refurnishing homes, building cabinets, roofing and whatever else needed to be done. She enjoyed taking care of her grandsons and granddaughter and spending time with their families.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery.

Ericsson, Roger L.65, of Brimfield, Ill. died at 1:28 a.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at home.
He was born September 22, 1947 in Galesburg, the son of Leif A. and Ruth (Nelson) Ericsson. He married Linda D. King June 14, 1969 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Michael Paul (and Serenedy) Ericsson of Seattle, Wash., three daughters, Kristina Marie (and Deken) Glenzinski of Princeville, Ill., Elizabeth Ann (and Bruce) Burton of Brimfield, Ill., and Rebecca Lynn (and Jeremy) Vogel of Mackinaw, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Morgan, Isaac, Gavin, Evan, Mila, and Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger was an electrical engineer at Caterpillar for more than 35 years, retiring in February 2012. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1965 and from Purdue University in 1969. Roger was a member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria, Heart of Illinois Via de Cristo, Professional Engineers Association, and I.E.E.E.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church, 7611 N. Knoxville, Peoria. Rev. O. Wayne Shelksohn will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. He was born on October 11, 1944 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, the son of Howard Dale and Veryle (Anderson) Pigg. He married Mary Jane Muenzenmeyer on February 1, 1969 at the Congregational Church in Abingdon.
Howard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Jane; one son, Howard Eugene “Gene” (and Jessica Klaers) Pigg of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Ann McMullen of Peoria and Martha (and Owen) Schaub of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He had lived in Abingdon all his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1962. He then served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Mechanics Tech in 1972. He worked at Gale Products in Galesburg and later as a distribution clerk for NAEIR in Galesburg, retiring in July of 2008. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Abingdon. He was also a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon and he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and yard work.
Cremation will be accorded. Private family service will be held. In celebration of his life, the family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Thursday, September 5, 2013 at their home, 612 West Jackson Street in Abingdon. He was born October 4, 1931 in Galesburg, the son of Thurston H. and Lula (Cameron) Vedell. He married Barbara Katzlberger on August 23, 1952 in Boston, Mass. She preceded him in death on June 24, 1997.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Vedell of Houston, Texas and Rick Vedell Jr. of Victoria; three daughters, Donna (and Roger “Butch”) Brockway of Fort Worth, Texas, Cindy (and Mark) Boyer of Knoxville, and Cheryl (and Tony) Miller of Wataga; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marilee (and Richard) Maulding of Carterville, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick was a salesman in the appliance department at Sears and Roebuck in Galesburg for 57 years, retiring in 2006. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1949. Dick served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Victoria American Legion.
Dick loved people and being around them. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Cubs fan. “Go Cubs!”
Cremation will be accorded. Private family graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. He was born February 2, 1957 in Galesburg the son of John E. and Barbara J. McGee Pierce. He married Janet D. Larkins on February 14, 1981 in Galesburg. She survives.
He is also survived by his two sons, Jeffery S. Pierce, Jr. and John L. Pierce both of Galesburg; four brothers, Don (Janice) Lobb of Winchester, Ill., Larry Pierce, John (Pat) Pierce and Mark (Lois) Pierce all of Galesburg; his Goddaughter, Amanda Anderson, his God Grandson, Brendon Anderson, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 9 ½ years. Jeffery graduated from Galesburg High School in 1975 and had attended Carl Sandburg College. He enjoyed cooking. He was a fan of Nascar, the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Visitation will be held 5-7 pm Friday, September 6, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Ekstrom, Grace89, of Hawthorne, Fla., formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Hawthorne.
She was born November 21, 1923 in Galesburg to Earl L. and Delma M. Curtis Tracy. She married John T. Ekstrom January 9, 1943 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death April 3, 1997.
Surviving is a son, John Timothy Ekstrom of Winter Park, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Peck of Hawthorne, Fla. and Theo Mayfield of Escondido, Calif.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Grace worked as a secretary for U.S.D.A. and then later Admiral Manufacturing Company in Galesburg. She retired in 1982. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. She later graduated from Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg and Bethel Women’s Group. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Johnson, Fla. She was also a member of Daughters of American Revolution.

She was born on December 23, 1937 in Galesburg, the daughter of David and Velma (Jacobs) McMahon. She married Victor Carl Landon on June 26, 1960. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2009.
Betty is survived by two sons, Greg (and Ronda) Landon of Alexis and Doug Landon of Galesburg; two daughters, Rhonda (and William) Lusietto of LaMoille and Becky Beaty of Macomb; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Ann (and Jim) Arnold of Galesburg.
Betty grew up in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon. She was also a member of the National Audubon Society. She enjoyed traveling with her husband.
To celebrate her life, her family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation.
