Miss Harriett M. Rossi, Galesburg Chapel

rossi_harriett.jpg87, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 10:40 pm Friday, September 7, 2012 in Heartland Health Care Center.

She was born November 17, 1924 in Morris, Ill., the daughter of John and Hazel Bryant Rossi.

She is survived by a brother, John E. (Virginia) Rossi of NC; two nephews, Jay (Cynthia) Rossi of NC, and David R. (Kathy) Johnson of Galesburg; three great nephews, Matthew (Sherry) Johnson and Ben (Melissa) Johnson both of Galesburg and Dan Johnson of Mo; two great nieces, Heather (James) Rossi-Pennington of Iowa City, Iowa and Sylvia Johnson of Mo.; three great great nephews Noah, Logan, Caleb and a great great niece Elaine all of Galesburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Robert Johnson, and a nephew, Paul “Pete” Johnson.

She worked as a registered nurse since 1946. She worked as a staff nurse in Chicago for 4 years. She graduated from Morris High School in 1942 and the Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She received her bachelors and master degrees from the University of Minnesota. She earned her post master degree from the University of Illinois in educational psychology. She worked at the University of Illinois College for Nursing in Chicago serving as a surgical nurse. Harriett then went to Champaign to work at the University of Illinois Campus as an RN instructor. She moved then to Springfield, Ill., where she was a clinical nursing instructor until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the National Nursing Society, a member of the Sigma Theta Tau and Pi Lambda Theta. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was part of the Stephens Ministry and Senior Adult programs. She also did home ministry.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Dave Scholl will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until 1 pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
