75, of Oneida, Ill., died at 1:45 am Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Seminary Manor.
He was born January 19, 1937 in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Frederick K. and Bernice Allen Parkinson. He married Donna Maria Hazen on March 8, 1964 in Galesburg, Ill. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2010.
He is survived by two sons, Brian W. “Birdy” Parkinson and Rod D. (Kristi) Parkinson both of Wataga, Ill.; his sister, Janet Swank of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Heather and Andrea Parkinson of Palm Coast, Fla., Austin and Hannah Parkinson of Wataga, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Donald, and an infant son, Todd Duane.
He served in the US Army National Guards from 1960-1966.
He graduated from ROVA in 1955 and began farming with his father on the family farm in the Wataga and Oneida areas. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 894. He enjoyed spending time with his family going on family vacations. He took great pride in his automobiles. Parkie loved getting dressed up and going out dancing at Harbor Lights, with his wife. Donna and Parkie loved celebrating good times spent with great friends and family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona or to the ROVWA Public School Foundation.
