Mr. James “Jim” Loren Miller, Galesburg Chapel

Miller, JamesObit_US_Flag91, of Galesburg, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015 in Seminary Manor.
He was born January 27, 1924 in Rend City, Illinois the son of Roy Herbert and Sarah (Treasure) Miller. He married Merle Bowman on June 26, 1960 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merle; a sister, Alice Miller of London Mills, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Hilda Miller of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Surroz; and two brothers, Leland and Harold Miller.
Jim graduated from London Mills High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in New Guinea and southern Philippines at the time of the liberation.
Jim worked at Midland Electric Coal, Peabody Coal Company, and ASARCO, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the V.F.W. Jim was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Cambridge Masonic Lodge #49 and Thor Lodge #9 of Moline.
Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Masonic services will be offered at 1:15 p.m. by Cambridge Masonic Lodge #49, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen officiating. She was born March 22, 1923 in rural Leland, Illinois the daughter of Irvin and Eva (Anderson) Gunderson. She married her high school sweetheart, Milbert L. Larson on May 30, 1942 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Leland. They had four children. Milbert preceded her in death March 16, 1970. She later married Barton Burch on November 4, 1975. He preceded her in death November 5, 2013. Edna was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Hazel Klein and Ruth Marshall.
She is survived by her four children, Rebecca Stange of San Jose, California, Deborah (and Michael) Stout of Ellicott City, Maryland, Judy Bradford of Peoria, Illinois, and Thomas (and Kim) Larson of Livermore, California; five grandsons, Brett (and Mimi) Stange, Scott (and Beth) Stange, Christopher Bradford, Ryan Bradford, and Joseph Stout; a great grandson, Clyde Stange; a great granddaughter, Hazel Stange; and two sisters, Frances Nelson and Helen Julie Stephenson.
Edna was raised and educated in Leland, graduating from Leland High School in 1941. She had a strong faith and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church while living in Leland. In Galesburg, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Edna had a lifelong passion for antiques and had owned Landmark Antiques in Galesburg.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Leland. Pastor Harold Grafe will officiate. Burial will be in Baker Cemetery in rural Leland. A luncheon will immediately follow the burial at the church, where an opportunity for fellowship and visiting will take place. Ruhl, Phillip83, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born March 26, 1932 in rural Hannibal, Missouri to Joseph and Stella Campbell Ruhl. He married Alta Piper in 1949 in Hannibal. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Neil Ruhl of rural Knoxville; three daughters, Kathy (and Tim) Stenson of Galesburg, Robin (and Bill) McNamara of Ridge Crest, California, and Jane (and Jeff) Frazier of Dahinda, Illinois; a brother, Glenn (and Martha) Ruhl of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Marion Pickett, Leta Glasscock and Jo Anne Roellig, all of Hannibal Missouri; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Stan Ruhl; a brother, Richard Ruhl and his parents.
Phillip was a truck driver for over 60 years and retired in 2008. During that time he and his son, Neil, owned the Iron Horse Enterprises. He graduated from Rensselair High School in 1949. He was a member of the Oaks Community Church in rural Dahinda. Phillip loved reading, flying and Bible study.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 am Monday. April 13, 2015 at the Oaks Community Church. Rev. Marty Briney will officiate. He was born August 6, 1930 in Maquon, Illinois the son of Ezra C. and Dortha Shore Helms. He married Dona L Benedict in East Galesburg, Illinois on August 26, 1950. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2004. He later married Barbara Jacobs Varnold in Galesburg on April 15, 2006. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas (Joyce) Helms and Casey L. Helms both of Galesburg; three daughters, Jackie (Steve) Herrick of Victoria, Illinois, Jerry (Mark) McLaughlin and Tracey (William) Ebbing both of Galesburg; two step children, Harold W. (Cindy) Varnold and Karen Johnson both of Galesburg; two sisters, Samalee Jones of Tacoma, Washington and Lynette Miller of Galesburg; ten grandchildren, one step grandson, thirteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a brother and a grandson, Matthew McLaughlin.
Don served in the US Air Force from 1949-1951 during Korean War as a Sgt.
Don worked as a switchman and brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was raised in Knoxville, Illinois graduating from Knoxville High School in 1948. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing nature with his family. He was a member of the Burlington Northern Prairie Hub Club. He was a past member of the former Galesburg Eagles Lodge #518 and the former Moose Lodge #880. Don was a lifetime member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. He also was a member of the National Riflemans Association. He was a member of the Half Hundred Club. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 am Monday, April 13, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Harold Berrian will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery with Military Honors. He was born October 17, 1942 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Harold and Bernadine McCammon Anderson. He married Rosie E. Wuerzburger December of 1965 in Galesburg.
He is survivied by his two sons, Beau Anderson of Galesburg and Quinn (Lisa) Anderson of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Terri (Troy) Billeter of Gilson, Illinois; his sister, Mary Ann Stoddard of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Chloe, Isabelle, Paige, Tasha and Travis and two great grandchildren, Allison and Sienna and one nephew David Stoddard. He is preceded in death by his parents.
John served in the US Air Force from 1960-1963 as Airman 2nd Class.
He worked for Gale Products until the time of their closing and later worked for Briggs Manufacturing. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1960. He was very involved in several softball and bowling leagues in the Galesburg area. He was most currently involved with the Senior League at Northgate Lanes. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be 5-8 pm Monday, April 20, 2015 at Northgate Lanes. Cremation will be accorded. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Sayrs, Beverly74, of Kirkwood, Illinois, died at 1:24 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at home.
She was born May 4, 1940 in Vermont, Illinois the daughter of Virgil and Helen (Vaughn) Chenoweth. She married Maynard Parish in 1961 in Monmouth, Illinois. She later married Ralph R. Sayrs on July 19, 1986 in Wataga, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Parish of Kirkwood. In addition to Ralph, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Virgil Chenoweth and David Chenoweth.
Beverly graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958. She worked as a “number please” girl for General Telephone Company. She also worked at Formfit/Rodgers in Monmouth and the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa for a time before working at Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
She was a former member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church and currently was attending First Christian Church in Monmouth. Beverly loved reading, crafting, bowling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Matt Reece will officiate. There will be no visitation. She was born October 19, 1960 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of John C. and Jo Ann R. (Brown) Frambes. She married Michael L. Larimer on August 17, 1979 in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Michael; her father and stepmother, John C. and Delores Frambes of Orland Park, Illinois; a son, Robert M. (and Ashley) Larimer of Galesburg; a daughter, Sarah E. Larimer of Galesburg; a granddaughter, Haylee A. Larimer; a brother, John E. Frambes of Tempe, Arizona; and two sisters, Patti (and Gary) Smith and Theresa A. Frambes, both of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Paula was employed by the Knox/Warren Special Education District as a special education teacher at Knoxville Junior High School for 19 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1978 and from Monmouth College in 1996. Paula was a devoted member of First Church of God, where she taught Sunday School, was involved with youth group, and coordinated Vacation Bible School and AWANA. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughter, Haylee.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at First Church of God. Rev. Dennis McQuown and Rev. Don Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow the funeral at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. She was born September 29, 1946 in Galesburg to Lenne Ward and Gertrude Freeman Wallace. She married David J. Vaughn September 1 1995 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Michele (and Kevin) Brentise of Monmouth, Illinois and Laura A. Neel of Galesburg; a brother, Lenne (and Debbie) Wallace; a son-in-law, Dan Quismondo of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two nieces; two great neices; and one great nephew. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn Quismondo.
Sandra helped with interaction in the community for mental health. She worked for Galesburg Research Hospital, Phoenix Industries and Bridgeway, all in Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964. She enjoyed collecting Christmas figurines.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of her life will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family or the American Cancer Society. She was born April 10, 1931 in Galesburg the daughter of Harvey Zoner and Florence Mary Anderson Scriven. She married Frederick “Ted” William Johnson on December 1, 1950 in Henderson, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2008
She is survived by her three sons, Terry L. (Kaylee) and Teddy L. Johnson both of Galesburg and Tim J. Johnson of Knoxville, Illinois; her brother, Roger Scriven of Galesburg; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer (Ray) Olinger, Melissa (Jason) Blume, Terry Johnson, Jr., Cassandra and Phillip Johnson, Christopher Elliott, Jacob Wingo, Chad and Jeremy Johnson, Shane Hulick, Owen, Carley and Grant Johnson; nine great grandchildren, Amelia and Alaric Olinger, Scarlyt and Lucy Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Jr., Elizabeth and Frederrick Johnson and Leighton and Wesley Blume and one niece, Ann Smith and one nephew, Mark Scriven and one great niece, Savanna Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Scriven.
Maxine lived her life as a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950. She was a past member of the Wataga Congregational Church. She was a member and past Oracle of the Royal Neighbors. Maxine enjoyed spending her time crocheting, embroidery, solving puzzles, playing the piano and the organ, listening to music and watching the Chicago Cubs and the Bulls.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Pamela Marolla will officiate. Visiation will be 5-7 pm Thursday at the chapel. Robert Whitlatchlongtime professor of theatre at Knox College, died April 11, 2015, at home in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born in Detroit, MI, on June 8, 1935, the son of Robert H. and Ethel C. Whitlatch of Burmingham, MI.
He is survived by his wife, Jo (Finch) Whitlatch; a daughter Lisa (David) Hodierne of Charleston, SC; a son Rob (Chris Clark) Whitlatch of Mapleton, IL; a son Adam (Sara Fink) Whitlatch of Madison, WI; a son Andrew (Rachel Kueker) Whitlatch of Galesburg, IL; and three granddaughters, Catherine and Sarah Hodierne of Charleston, SC; and Jaycee Whitlatch of Mapleton, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan (Cochran) Whitlatch, whom he married in 1958; and a grandson Robert Reid Whitlatch.
Bob attended Cranbrook Preparatory School in Birmingham, MI, 6th-12th Forms; graduated with honors from Denison University (BA) in 1957; and the University of Illinois (MA and PhD) in 1958 and 1962. After teaching in the Theatre Department at Illinois State University from 1962-1966, he joined the faculty of Knox College Theatre Department in 1966, where he was a teacher, director, department chair, member of numerous committees, and Grand Marshal, for 42 years. “Doc Bob,” as he was affectionately known on the Knox campus, was the first Knox faculty member to receive the Robert M. and Katherine A. Seeley Distinguished Service Professor Award, was awarded the Phillip Green Wright/Lombard College Prize for Distinguished Teaching in 1987 and again in 1996, and received the Caterpillar Faculty Achievement Award in 2008. Bob directed, designed, and performed in over 70 productions at Knox College. He helped create in 1970 the Knox Repertory Theatre Term, a unique and
intense undergraduate curriculum, and he was on the first planning group to establish Freshman Preceptorial, a year-long course for first-year students, in which he often led discussions or gave presentations.
A true life-long learner, Bob frequently audited other professors’ classes, including philosophy, computer science, and Greek. At Knox, Bob attended all theatre productions, whether directed by his department colleagues or students; attended all vocal, dance, and musical recitals; and attended as many lectures and presentations by other departmental faculty members and students as possible. In retirement, Bob re-read all of Proust and most of Shakespeare, and continued reading, researching, and writing on his favorite topic: the links between acting,psychology, and the philosophy of mind and consciousness.

79 of rural Cameron, died at 9:08 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

He was born June 26, 1935 in Pekin, the son of Richard and Ludwina Thaller Connell.  He married Ruth Ann Baughman on May 25, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Church in Elmwood.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann; two sons, Tom P. Connell of Charlotte, North Carolina and Tim Connell of Cameron; three daughters, Bridget (David) Cadwell of San Antonio, Texas, Rosemary (Jeff) Gardner of Galesburg and Melissa (Steve) Hughes of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Ian Hughes, Tim Gardner and Hannah Crouse; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dee Rummel of San Jose, Illinois and Colleen Seymour of Franklin, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Tom graduated from Yates City High School in 1953.  He farmed near Cameron for over 20 years and he was a mechanic at the former Westbay Equipment, retiring in 2000.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon.  His hobbies included gardening and in his later years, feeding and watching birds.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Green Bay Packer fan.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon.  Father William Miller I.C. will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the praying of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.  Cremation will be accorded following the Funeral Mass.

He was born April 11, 1926 in Rushville, Illinois, the son of Glen and Margaret (Katzenberger) Strausbaugh. He married Marilyn Gee on October 9, 1976 in Victoria.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Marilyn; two sons, Michael (and Maria) Strausbaugh of Oneida and Patrick (and Toni) Strausbaugh of Loveland, Ohio; two daughters, Becky (and Harry) Lynch of Fiatt and Sandra (and Jim Pasley) Strausbaugh of Canton; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and a niece, nephew, and great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Goodwin.
Glenn was raised and educated in Rushville, graduating from high school there in 1944. He then served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in the Pacific. After returning, he attended and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1949. Glenn was an English teacher and a beloved football and basketball coach for many years. He worked at Galesburg schools, Smithfield schools, and Cuba schools. After retiring from teaching, he worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid and Catholic Social Services. Glenn dabbled in farming and heavy equipment operation. He had also worked as a crop duster out of the old Galesburg Airport on Henderson Street.
Glenn was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed golfing and playing tennis. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Bishop Bruce Polay will officiate and military honors will be offered at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. He was born March 21, 1941 in Galesburg, the son of Kenneth H. and Lila Fern (Cherrington) Armstrong. He married Mary Ewing on June 19, 1965 in Frankfurt, Germany.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary; a daughter, Tricia (and Matt) Paul of Andalusia; and two grandchildren, Kenna Armstrong and Haley Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy, Patricia Armstrong; and a son, David Armstrong on June 10, 2014.
Ron graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967, stationed in Frankfurt. After the Army, Ron farmed for 40 years, retiring in 2007. He was a gun enthusiast enjoying skeet shooting and cowboy action shooting.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Sam Cherrington will officiate. He was born August 26, 1919, in rural Elmwood, the son of George Samuel Thompson and Bertha Graham Thompson. He had three brothers: Paul Thompson of Hanna City, Sidney Thompson of Elmwood, and John Thompson of Smithfield, Rhode Island. Gordon graduated from Elmwood High School in 1937, and from the University of Illinois in 1941 with honors.
Gordon married Doris Lee Ellison on July 9, 1950, in Decatur, Illinois. They enjoyed 62 years of blessed marriage; however, Lee preceded him in death on December 28, 2012.
He is survived by three sons: David B. (Kyle) Thompson of Greensburg, Indiana; Dana E. (Carol) Thompson of Elgin, Illinois; and Donald P. (Marcia) Thompson of South Elgin, Illinois; and three daughters: Diane R. Shea of Sullivan, Illinois; Donna M. (Greg) Mathews of Galesburg, Illinois; and Denise A. (Trace) Tucker of Versailles, Indiana.
Gordon was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with another expected in August,
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers, and his grandson, Tanner Lee Tucker.
Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1941, after graduating from the University of Illinois ROTC program, and served in active duty full-time until March 1946. He then served 25 years as a reserve officer, graduating from the Command and General Staff College Associate Course, specializing in Field Artillery. He also served as a reserve instructor for ten years. Gordon retired in 1971 with the rank of Colonel.
Gordon served as an Agricultural Advisor Specialist for Youth in Winnebago County, and took a similar position in Knox County in 1949. He operated a personal insurance agency in Knoxville for more than 50 years, and he was also a former school bus driver for the Knoxville School District.
Gordon possessed a heart for service to his church, his community, and his country. He was a past Board Chairman and Moderator for the First Baptist Church of Galesburg, where he has been a member since 1955. He taught Sunday School there for more than 30 years, and he is a past Treasurer and President of the Galesburg Conference of Churches.
Gordon was a past PTA president at the Mable Woolsey Elementary School. He was a College’s Dean’s Club member and a member of the University’s President’s Council at the University of Illinois. He was the Chairman of the College of Agriculture Class of ‘41 Alumni Committee, as well as the Chairman of Hill Hall Alumni. Gordon established family scholarship programs at both the Colleges of ACES (Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences) at the University of Illinois, as well as at Judson University (the alma mater for five of his six children).
Gordon was also a 30-year member and past President of the Galesburg Men’s Church Bowling League. His other hobbies included collecting antique postcards, gardening, and playing horse shoes. His most treasured moments included spending time with his family and loved ones.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, April 24, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Galesburg. Reverend Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be 10:00 am Friday at the Knoxville Cemetery, with military honors.

She was born July 30, 1923 in Little York, Illinois the daughter of Grover C. and Mary Jane (Everhart) Icenogle. She married Keith N. Brown on February 11, 1944 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2012.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda K. Ferry of Henderson, Illinois; three grandchildren, Michelle L. (and Craig Genisio) McGee of Woodhull, Illinois, Kevin N. (and A.J.) Ferry of Monmouth, Illinois, and Brent C. (and Liz) Ferry of Austin, Texas; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Marion W. Icenogle of Fayetteville, Arkansas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and five sisters.
Norma worked at the former Admiral Manufacturing in Galesburg for 20 years, retiring in 1985. After retiring, Norma and Keith moved to Shell Knob, Missouri, where she was a charter member of F.O.E. #4155. They returned to the Galesburg area in 2006. Norma graduated from Plymouth High School in 1940. She served in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in San Diego.
Norma enjoyed reading, riverboat gambling, and going to Florida every January
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Vincent Marolla will officiate. There will be no visitation.  He was born July 9, 1967 in Galesburg, the son of Gibson and Leveta Smith Schoonover. He married his partner of 26 years, Donald Michael Harper on July 31, 2014 in McLean County, Illinois. He survives.

Also surviving is his mother, Leveta Schoononer of Galesburg; his son, Robert Stites of Chicago, Illinois; three brothers, Chester D. (Denise) Schoonover of Galesburg, Robert D. (Cindy) Schoonover of Makanda, Illinois, Jerry (Tracy) Schoonover of Ursa, Illinois; two sisters, Linda (Fred) Sallo of South Carolina and Erica (Chad) Rost of Table Grove, Illinois; mother-in-law, Myra Harper of Abingdon, Illinois; his sisters-in-law, Penny (Mike) Boyd of Abingdon, Lori (Todd) Lipka of Altona, Illinois and Rebecca (Kent) Gray of Wataga, Illinois, his brother-in-law, Daniel (Janet) Harper of Galesburg and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father in 1995.

 Roger worked for MAK Properties in Galesburg for several years. He was a member of the Prairie Players Civic Theater, FCAN and Friends of IPWA. He enjoyed doing lighting for the Orpheum Theater. He also enjoyed camping and gardening.

He was born September 9, 1967 in Galesburg the son of Robert and Emma Gene Spinks Jackson. He married Elizabeth Brand in Galesburg on December 19, 1998.
Robert is survived by his “Pops”, James Blackwell of Galesburg; his children, Brandy Jackson and Robert Jackson, Jr. both of Galesburg, Robert Nathan Jackson of Burlington, Iowa, Shay Dragoo, O’Brion Allen, Treanna Allen, Cierra Brahmstedt, and Joe Williams all of Galesburg; three brothers, Rory Jackson (and Debbi), Robert (and Michelle) Sargent of Wataga, and Anthony (and Helen) Sargent of St. Paul, Minnesota; three sisters, Robyn Broadfield and Renita (and Mearon) Diggins, both of Galesburg and Laura (and Jaswick) Dyett of Grimes, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Martell Woods, Peyton Jackson, Makaylie McClaren, Hahlay, Deamiyn and Dearion Elston and Jackson Smith, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and his brother-in-law, Chuck Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Madilyn Jackson.
Bobby worked at Beisser Lumber in West Des Moines, Iowa for several years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1985. It was that year Bobby was drafted out of high school to play minor league baseball for the San Francisco Giants. He was later picked to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bobby was inducted in the Galesburg High School Hall of Fame in 2011.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jerry Cato and Rev. Jon Sibley will officiate. kjellander, jason44, of Elgin, Illinois passed away on April 28, 2015 at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois.
He was born in Galesburg on October 17, 1970, the son of Francis Lee and Gwendolyn Marie Kjellander.
A graduate of Abingdon High School, he attended Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois, Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Gerontology. He was a mortgage broker for many years, and most currently served as Senior Administrations Adviser for Colorado Technical University.
Jay is survived by his parents, Francis and Gwen Kjellander of Leesburg, Florida, his brothers and sister, Jeffrey (and Nancy) Kjellander of Dekalb, Illinois, Jennifer (and Christopher) Parks of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Joseph Kjellander of Elgin, Illinois. Jay is also survived by his nieces, Jenny Kjellander, Nikki (and Tony) Morales, Allison (and Cindy) Kjellander-Cantu, and Kate Kjellander, grand-nephews Haze, Knox, and Kruz Morales, grand-niece Gwenyth Browne, and Goddaughter, Hannah Alcorn.
He played college football and was an avid sports fan. It was this love of outdoor sports and camping that Jay acquired an amazing abundance of friends that were near and dear to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, Illinois. Another celebration will be held in Elgin, Illinois at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to “4ICU ” Loyola University Hospital, Maywood, Illinois.
