81, of Galesburg, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 19, 1933 in Industry, Ill., the son of Robert Verner and Goldie (Willy) DeWeese. He married Theresa Jane Johnson on February 8, 1957 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane; two sons, Michael DeWeese and David DeWeese, both of Galesburg; a daughter, Tammy Winterbottom of Monticello, Ill.; two grandchildren, Katy Gustafson and Damon DeWeese; three brothers, Jack DeWeese of Galesburg, William DeWeese of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Roger DeWeese in Texas; and two sisters, Katherine Zeigler and Joane Johnson, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and Gene.
Rex worked for Gates Rubber Company for 36 years. He also worked for the railroad at WFE Refrigeration for 16 of those years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952, where he was the Homecoming King and participated in football and track.
Rex served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War as a radar operator. He was a member of the Galesburg Motorcyle Club and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
