89, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born October 8, 1924 in Galesburg to David and Ellen Dahlstrom Carlson. He married G. Evelyn Calhoun May 9, 1948 in Prairie City, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David Glenn (and Janet Ann) Carlson of Rochester, Minn. and John William Carlson of East Peoria, Ill.; two daughters, Ruth Anne Carlson of Springfield, Ill. and Jean Ellen (and Homer III, M.D.) Fleisher of Conway, Ark.; six grandchildren, Emily Ann Carlson, Laura Lynn Carlson, Molly Megan Carlson, Michael David (and Lindsay) Fleisher, Christin Marie (and Chris) Rippy Fleisher, and James Matthew Fleisher; and three great grandchildren, Mathew David Fleisher, Allison Marie Rippy, and Emily Kate Rippy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Nelson.
Dale graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942. He then graduated from Allied Screw Machine Company in 1942 as a machinist. From October 28, 1943 to May 29, 1946 Dale served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in Okinawa. He was a machinist for the former C.B & Q. Railroad, Rowe Manufacturing Company and Gates Rubber Company for 27 years, all in Galesburg. He was a member of Covenant Church and served on Diaconate and was an usher. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and enjoyed working in his yard. He loved his church and his family.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Covenant Church. Rev. Tom Ek will officiate. Military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 will be at the church. Burial will be in Prairie City Cemetery, Prairie City, Ill. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Church.
