76, of The Woodlands, Texas formerly of Galesburg, Ill. passed away peacefully at his home in The Woodlands at 7:55 pm Sunday, January 5, 2014.
He was born on December 31, 1937 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. the son of Floyd Virgil and Lucille (Snare) Lagrow, Sr. He married Ruth Anne Weedman on July 7, 1956 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his children, Marvin Alexander “Toby” (and Linda) LaGrow, Jr. of Scottsboro, Ala., John Virgil (and Shelley) LaGrow of Houston, Texas and
Shirley Anne (and Mike) Jelmo of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his younger sister, Judy Rhodes of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Michaella Anne (Jelmo) (and Levi) Howell, Alexandra Marie Jelmo both of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dayton Thomas LaGrow of Houston, Texas, one great grandchild-Michael Kenneth Jelmo of Colorado Springs, Colo. and a sister-in-law, Carol LaGrow of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Floyd LaGrow, Jr. of Galesburg passing on November, 2012 and a brother-in-law, Bobby Rhodes.
Marvin graduated from Lombard High School Galesburg, Ill. in 1956, Devry Technical School in 1958 and the University of Minnesota in 1973. He worked at NCR (National Cash Register Co.) for 17 years before founding his own automation company Cimmation Industries of Minneapolis, Minn.
Marvin was a masterful mechanical minded man who loved spending time with his grandchildren, boating, flying, traveling in his RV “The Coach” and listening and playing music.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 am Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
