84, of Galesburg, Ill., formerly of Verona, Ill. went to be with the Lord at 9:54 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 in Galesburg.
Richard was born March 11, 1929 in Morris, Ill., the son of George W. and Martha (Punke) Finch. He married Betty J. Carpenter on May 5, 1949 in Verona United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jo E. (Robert) Whitlatch, Mary (Frank Dumke) Knop, and Randal L. Finch, all of Galesburg and R. Kevin (Jana) Finch of Verona; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Whitlatch of Madison, Wis., Andrew (Rachel) Whitlatch of Galesburg, Nathan (Jen Tuley) Knop of Pontiac, Ill., Amanda Knop of St. Charles, Mo., Kelsey Finch of St. Louis, Mo., Paige Finch of Verona, and David Tuley of Pontiac; a sister-in-law, Elsie Finch of N.C.; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald G. (Frances) Finch and William Finch.
Richard was raised in Verona, Ill. on a farm. He graduated from Mazon High School in 1947. He spent most of his life farming in Grundy County. He had lived in Galesburg since 2009.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Ward Cemetery at Verona with Dr. Charles Giacinto officiating. Family and friends are welcome to come to the Congregational Church hall for refreshments and fellowship after the service.
