affectionately known as “Fisty”, died August 11, 2013 at home Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
She was born November 21, 1932, in Freeport, Ill. to Howard Benjamin and Olladene (Roberts) Scholes.
Fisty is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Anthony Bennett. They were born, raised and married in Freeport. She graduated from Knox College in 1954 with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Pipe Organ. Married for 61 years, Fisty and Chuck lived more than 50 years in Galesburg. They owned Bennett’s Unlimited on Main Street for 15 years.
Fisty served on numerous boards and served in various volunteer positions. In recent years, her pastimes included reading, playing the piano, visiting with family and friends and time on her computer. An early adopter of computer technology (1984), Fisty spent considerable time using the Internet, and connecting with friends and family on Facebook.
Surviving family include her sister, Mrs. Joseph (Molly) Doolittle of Freeport; daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Hunter of Pleasant Prairie, Wis. and Katherine (Kate) Calkins of Galesburg; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Kathryn) Hunter, Jonathon (Kirsti) Hunter, Benjamin (Sagan) Calkins, and Abigail Curtis; great-grandchildren, Avery, Benjamin, Madeline, Caleb, Merreck and Addelyn; nieces and nephews, David and John Doolittle, Mark, Steve and Julie Bennett, and Michael Bennett; and special cousins, Ron, Ray, Randy, Rob, Roger, and Ralph Postin and their families
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. with memorial service following at 1:30 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel on Saturday September 7, 2013. Private graveside services were held for the family previously at Hope Cemetery, Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission, P.O.
