80, of Oneida, died at 1:26 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born September 26, 1932 in Haw Creek Township, Knox County, the son of Robert E. and Marjorie (Swank) Colwell. He married Marilyn Thompson on April 28, 1962 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn; a son, Thomas (and Linda) Colwell of Georgetown, Texas; three daughters, Mary Ellen Colwell of Farmington, Lynn (and Wayne) Palmer of Knoxville, and Jackie (and Robert) Denniston of Victoria; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Harry Colwell in Nebraska, Danny Colwell of Galesburg, Kenny Colwell of Abingdon, and Frank Colwell of Galesburg; a sister, Alice Gibbs of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joey; and five brothers and sisters.
Jim was a press operator in the plastics department of Maytag for 41 years, retiring in 1993. He graduated from Galesburg High School. Jim enjoyed spending time at the Mississippi River with his family and was a former member of the Oquawka Eagle’s Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling.
Jim served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953. He was a member and past commander of Oneida American Legion Post 727.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel.
