94, of Galesburg, died at 2:55 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born May 25, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Beulah Mosena Hartman. She married Jack A. Schwarz on June 17, 1938 in Burlington. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1984.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Schwarz of Thailand and Roger (and Sharon) Schwarz and Robert Schwarz, both of Galesburg; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Leona helped her husband with the family business, Schwarz Brothers Manufacturing in Galesburg. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1937 and had lived in Galesburg since 1938. Leona was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, Peacemakers Quilting Club, Widow’s Support Group, Barnabas, and the Miriam Guild. Outside of church, she was a volunteer for crippled children, the visually handicapped, at both hospitals, and a foster grandma at Hope Head Start.
Leona has donated her body to science. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Lee Whiteside will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial of her remains will be later in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
