90, of Galesburg, Ill. died Sunday January 20, 2013 at 5:15 AM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born February 5, 1922 in Sharpsville, Ind. the daughter of William C. and Henrietta M. Gates Harper. She married William R. Turner June 9, 1946 in Sharpsville, Ind. He preceded her in death April 19, 2009.
Mary is survived by two sons Douglas K. (Rita) Turner of Springfield, Il and their three children, David Turner, Christopher (Janell) Turner and Robin Marie (Bryan) Cross; and her son Phillip L. Turner and his children Ruhiyyeh Turner and Khalil Turner of Kewanee, Ill., and is loved and remembered by their mother Clemencia Turner. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two great grandchildren.
She was raised in Indiana moving to Galesburg in 1947. She graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1940 and then in 1945 she graduated from the Conservatory of Music affiliated with Butler University receiving her Bachelor of Music Education. She taught school in Ladoga, Ind., Williamsfield, Ill. and Galesburg, Ill. and was a substitute teacher for many years for District # 205.
She was a member of the Eastern Star in Sharpsville Ind. She was a member for sixty six years of the First Presbyterian Church and Director of the Children’s Chapel Choir, Past President of the Presbyterian Women, where she was the representative to and past treasurer of The Church Women United. She was a Life member in the Presbyterian Women and member and past Co-Chairperson of the Presbyterian 39ers since 1960. She served as Treasurer and Publicity Chairperson for the LT Stone PTA.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Parker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
