83, of Galesburg, died at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1929 in Galesburg the son of Marion A. and Erminie Camper McCone. He married Bonnie Burton. He later married Beverley Belt-Howerter on May 31, 1986 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Beverley; three daughters, Sandra (and Alan) Alderman of Galesburg, Debra (and Danny) Swanson of Galesburg, and Barbara Ferris of Peoria; two step daughters, Rita (and Robert) Fitzsimmons of Galesburg and Lisa (and James) Blake of Galesburg; a step son, Darin Howerter of Galesburg; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (and Joyce) McCone of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Wilson.
Robert was the production coordinator for Wagoner Printing for 34 years, retiring in 1991. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. He was of the Methodist faith. Robert loved woodworking and carpenter work. He enjoyed bowling, playing the guitar and organ, and spending time with his family.
Robert served in the United States Marine Corps.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Faith United Methodist Church. Rev. Norman Mendell will officiate. An Irish Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at the home of Alan and Sandra Alderman, 1069 Knox Road 325E, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
