Mrs. Velma J. Cramlett, Galesburg Chapel

82, of Galesburg, went home to be an angel to the Lord Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 2:43 p.m. at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born March 6, 1930 at home in Palmyra, Mo. the daughter of William Floyd and Atha Miria Buck King Sr. She married Robert E. Cramlett.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (and Tyrone Williams) Allen of East Galesburg; a son, Kevin (and Whitney Lefler) Cramlett of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Melissa Allen, Kendra Cramlett, Cody Cramlett, Caleb Cramlett, and Preston Allen; three great grandchildren, Cedric Allen and Payton and Paisley Cramlett; a brother, William (and Judy) King Jr. of New London, Mo.; three sisters, Maxine Stover and Helen Gibbons, both of Hannibal, Mo. and Juanita Howell of Quincy, Ill.; and her best friend, Ruby Jacobs of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Bradley Cramlett; and three brothers, Alfred, Charles, and Roy King.
She was raised in Missouri and had lived in Galesburg since 1969. Velma loved children and spent a majority of her life caring for them in her home, at Rose Hoben Welch’s afterschool program and at her church. She was a dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg. Velma enjoyed shopping, fishing, and dancing. She was a very giving person and liked to make people laugh.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. John Carlson will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
