Miss Virginia Hinchliff, Galesburg Chapel

hinchliff-virginia.jpgage 101, a resident of Rosewood Care Center, 1250 West Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born October 28, 1910 in Galesburg, the daughter of Everett and Nell Townsend Hinchliff. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barb (Mrs. Homer T.) Hinchliff of Port Townsend, Wash., one niece, and six nephews. There are also six great nieces, one great-great niece, and one great-great nephew.
Virginia graduated from Galesburg High School in 1928, from Knox College in 1932, and received her master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1945.
Miss Hinchliff taught school in Knox County for 40 years. She started her career at Victoria High School and then moved to Lombard Junior High in Galesburg. She spent the last 25 years at Galesburg Senior High School.
She was active in educational circles, having served as president of the Galesburg Education Association, president of the Western Division of the Illinois Education Association, and president of the Knox County Retired Teachers. She also served for eight years on the Illinois Teachers’ Certification Board.
She was a member of Central Congregational Church, Chapter AN of P.E.O., Sorosis, Meletomen Study Club, Pi Phi Alumnae, and she was the first president of Alpha Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
There will be no visitation, but a memorial service will be held at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. Revs. James Ecklund and Thomas Heather will be leading the service.
