85, of Galesburg, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016, in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born March 27, 1930 in Asheville, North Carolina, the son of Porter and Eva (Orr) Anders. He married Rita M. Schmidt in 1964 in Columbus, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita; two sons from a previous marriage; a step daughter, Peggy (and Jeff) Farnsworth; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Anders and Eddie Anders; and four sisters, Mildred Kennedy, Helen Wyatt, Beatrice Banks, and Dorothy Sams.
Howard served in the United States Army for 28 years. He retired with the rank First Sergeant. He had served in Korea eight times, once in Vietnam, and had also been stationed in Germany and Hawaii. He was raised in the Baptist faith.
Howard enjoyed sports, especially watching football and basketball. He also liked country music and western movies.
Visitation will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel. Brother Larry Strope will officiate.
